Director Positions Available for Election in 2027
The Board has established the target size of the Board at eleven (11) Directors, effective upon the conclusion of the next Annual Meeting of Members to be held on March 17, 2027. As a result, there will be three (3) available Director positions open for election in 2027, each for a three-year term.
The Board must include at least two (2) Francophone Directors1 and at least two (2) Rural Directors2. Among the Directors whose terms extend beyond the 2027 Director Elections, three (3) are Francophone Directors and two (2) are Rural Directors. As such, there are no designated Francophone or Rural Vacancies for the 2027 Director Elections. Eligible Francophone and Rural members are, of course, still eligible to run as candidates in the Director Elections.
The three (3) candidates on the ballot that achieve the highest number of votes will be elected.
Ideal Competencies, Skills and Experience of Directors
ACU’s Board is committed to strong, responsible and ethical governance. The ACU Board understands the importance of ensuring its Board as a whole possesses the knowledge, skills, diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences to effectively steward and oversee the strategic direction of the organization. The ACU Board recognizes the benefits of having a diverse Board to attract high-calibre Directors, maintain a high-functioning Board, promote the inclusion of different perspectives and ideas, provide good governance, and build a competitive advantage.
ACU strives for a Board made up of individual Directors who collectively provide the ideal Director competencies, skills and experiences identified by the Board, which are described in the Candidate Guide. ACU aims to have a Board that is representative of the members and communities it serves, with Directors from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences who embody a global citizen mindset and commitment to strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion.
A gap analysis of the current board, less those Directors up for re-election in 2027, has been conducted. Individuals with senior leadership or governance-level experience in climate change management and sustainability, or information technology would be a particular asset to the Board. We are also seeking diversity in gender identity and expression and encourage women and non-binary individuals to apply. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
Next steps
Following the close of the Call for Nominations, the Nominating Committee will review all applications, interview all eligible candidates and submit a recommendation on candidate endorsement to the Board of Directors. In February, ACU will provide members with information about candidates and voting in Director Elections. Election results will be announced at the Annual Meeting of Members on March 17, 2027, and posted online following the meeting.
