The Nominating Committee issued a Call for Nominations that was open from October 6 – 23, 2025. Any member of the credit union that meets the requirements to serve as a Director as specified in the By-laws of the credit union was eligible to be nominated as a candidate for election.
Cast Your Vote in the 2026 Director Elections
The Nominating Committee of the Assiniboine Credit Union/Caisse Assiniboine Board of Directors is pleased to announce that voting in the 2026 Director Elections is now open.
Members can vote online at vote.acu.ca until 3:00 PM on February 19, 2026.
The ACU Board of Directors plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the credit union, overseeing its financial and organizational health, and making critical decisions. All eligible voting-age members of Assiniboine Credit Union/Caisse Assiniboine are invited to vote in the 2026 Director Elections between February 3 – 19, 2026. Here you'll find details about how to vote and learn about the candidates in the election.
4 Director Positions Available for Election in 2026
ACU is currently governed by a 12-member Board of Directors. There are four (4) available Director positions on the Board for election in 2026 as a result of Directors whose terms are expiring. Each position is for a 3 (three) year term.
Rural and Francophone Vacancies
Following the January 1, 2025, merger of Assiniboine Credit Union, Caisse Populaire Groupe Financier and Westoba Credit Union, the Board must include at least two (2) Francophone Directors1 and at least two (2) Rural Directors2. Of the Directors who are not up for election in 2026, three (3) are Francophone Directors and two (2) are Rural Directors. As such, there are no Francophone Vacancies or Rural Vacancies (within the meaning of ACU’s by-laws) for the 2026 Director Elections. Francophone individuals and Rural individuals are, of course, still eligible to run as candidates in the 2026 Director Elections.
Members will elect the Directors for the four (4) available Director positions, based on the four (4) candidates on the ballot that achieve the highest number of votes.
Meet the Candidates
Each year, the Nominating Committee reviews the composition of the Board against the Board's ideal areas of competencies, skills, and experience, and works with the Board to identify gaps. Then, the Nominating Committee looks for qualified candidates to fill the identified gaps.
Desired Skills & Experience for 2026
This year, through the Call for Nominations, the Nominating Committee indicated that candidates with experience related to climate change management and sustainability, or information technology would be a particular asset to the Board at this time. They also noted that the Board is seeking diversity in gender identity and expression, encouraging females and non-binary individuals to apply. All qualified candidates were encouraged to apply.
9 eligible members have put their name forward as candidates in the 2026 Director Elections.
In keeping with good governance practices, the Nominating Committee and Board follow a rigorous application, interview and endorsement process to determine which candidates best meet identified gaps and have the required skills and experience needed on the Board at this time. After carefully considering the applications received, the Board has endorsed six candidates.

Voting Eligibility Guidelines
One member, one vote (regardless of the number of shares held).
- If you were a member of more than one of the merging organizations (Assiniboine Credit Union, Caisse Groupe Financier, or Westoba Credit Union) before January 1, 2025, the merger combined your memberships into one. As a result, you are entitled to a single vote. Even if you still have multiple legacy membership numbers while we work to harmonize our systems, voting more than once is not permitted.
- A joint membership held by two or more persons is only entitled to one vote for the joint membership.
Must be 18 years of age or older and a member of Assiniboine Credit Union/Caisse Populaire Assiniboine.
- Outlook Financial and MAXA Financial are divisions of ACU. A Member over 18 that uses the services of Outlook Financial and/or MAXA Financial is eligible to vote.
A member that is a corporation or association is eligible to vote provided that the representative exercising the vote on behalf of that member completes an online form verifying their authority (by resolution of the company) to vote on behalf of the member.
- A sole proprietorship is not considered a ‘body corporate’. A member that is a sole proprietor can only vote once, and not twice even if the member has both individual and business accounts.
A partnership is not considered a ‘body corporate’.
- Any partner of the partnership that is a member of ACU has the right to vote as an individual, but there is no second vote allowed on behalf the partnership.
- If none of the partners are members individually of ACU but the partnership is a member, then the partnership has one vote as a member.
Proxy voting is not allowed.
- An attorney for a member of ACU appointed under a power of attorney has the right to vote for the member if the power of attorney document grants the attorney the power to exercise voting rights.
- Any attorney requesting voting credentials for the member that appointed the attorney from ACU would be required to produce valid power of attorney documentation.
For a membership that an individual has opened in trust for another, the trustee may vote as the ‘holder’ of the membership, provided the beneficial owner is age 18 or older.
- If the beneficial owner is a minor, there is no right to vote, as members must be 18 or older to participate in the vote.
- If the beneficial owner is over the age of 18, and has an individual membership in their own name, the trustee is not entitled to vote as the beneficial owner already has the right to vote with their personal membership and cannot vote twice.
An executor or administrator may not vote on behalf of an estate account, as the death of the member is deemed to be a withdrawal from membership.
Associate members are not eligible to vote.
