Voting Eligibility Guidelines

Voting Eligibility Details

One member, one vote (regardless of the number of shares held).

  • If you were a member of more than one of the merging organizations (Assiniboine Credit Union, Caisse Groupe Financier, or Westoba Credit Union) before January 1, 2025, the merger combined your memberships into one. As a result, you are entitled to a single vote. Even if you still have multiple legacy membership numbers while we work to harmonize our systems, voting more than once is not permitted.
  • A joint membership held by two or more persons is only entitled to one vote for the joint membership.

Must be 18 years of age or older and a member of Assiniboine Credit Union/Caisse Populaire Assiniboine.

  • Outlook Financial and MAXA Financial are divisions of ACU. A Member over 18 that uses the services of Outlook Financial and/or MAXA Financial is eligible to vote.

A member that is a corporation or association is eligible to vote provided that the representative exercising the vote on behalf of that member completes an online form verifying their authority (by resolution of the company) to vote on behalf of the member.

  • A sole proprietorship is not considered a ‘body corporate’. A member that is a sole proprietor can only vote once, and not twice even if the member has both individual and business accounts.

A partnership is not considered a ‘body corporate’.

  • Any partner of the partnership that is a member of ACU has the right to vote as an individual, but there is no second vote allowed on behalf the partnership.
  • If none of the partners are members individually of ACU but the partnership is a member, then the partnership has one vote as a member.

Proxy voting is not allowed.

  • An attorney for a member of ACU appointed under a power of attorney has the right to vote for the member if the power of attorney document grants the attorney the power to exercise voting rights.
  • Any attorney requesting voting credentials for the member that appointed the attorney from ACU would be required to produce valid power of attorney documentation.

For a membership that an individual has opened in trust for another, the trustee may vote as the ‘holder’ of the membership, provided the beneficial owner is age 18 or older.

  • If the beneficial owner is a minor, there is no right to vote, as members must be 18 or older to participate in the vote.
  • If the beneficial owner is over the age of 18, and has an individual membership in their own name, the trustee is not entitled to vote as the beneficial owner already has the right to vote with their personal membership and cannot vote twice.

An executor or administrator may not vote on behalf of an estate account, as the death of the member is deemed to be a withdrawal from membership.

Associate members are not eligible to vote.
